Responsible Gambling: it's your best bet. What is responsible gambling? If you choose to gamble, its about arming yourself with the right information. It's about knowing what you can afford to spend on gambling and only spending that amount. It's about leaving your credit cards at home so you limit your risk. It's about knowing when you started to play, how long you plan to stay, and leaving when you said you would. It's about meeting your commitments in life and not brushing them off so you can play longer. It's about keeping it fun. It's about an evening of entertainment with a group of friends. And it's always about making informed decisions. That's the best bet you'll make.
The Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (NSGC) - Helping our players make informed decisions
NSGC's commitment to the people of Nova Scotia is to ensure our Province has the most progressive and responsible gaming industry in the world. That means increased education through social marketing campaigns, responsible gambling education programs, developing new tools such as Internet blocking software. It means new methods of practice, such as reducing accessibility through the removal of 1,000 Video Lottery Terminals. And it means increased research, such as the world's first launch of a card-based responsible gaming device, to help us make evidence-based decisions that are in the best interest of our Province.
Progressive programs are our responsible gambling hallmark. We're proud of this. NSGC has been recognized as a world leader in responsible gambling because of our commitment to finding and delivering innovative and effective programs. But what we're most proud of is the difference these programs are making here at home. Through more than a dozen prevention and education programs, we reached 95,000 Nova Scotians in 2009-10. And we're not stopping here. In 2010-11, we will continue to expand our responsible gambling initiatives, with the goal of reaching even more Nova Scotians with these important messages.
In 2009-10, NSGC spent more than $7.8 million on responsible gambling programs and problem gambling treatment and prevention.
