In April 2005, the Nova Scotia Government introduced Canada's first fully-integrated Gaming Strategy. The strategy enforced a number of initiatives including the removal of 1,000 VLTs, reduced hours of VLT operation, disabling of the "stop" button feature on all VLTs, and a reduction on the speed of games by 30%. These initiatives resulted in a reduction in the Video Lottery Payment to Province of $21 million in 2006-07 for a total of a $42 million reduction in the Payment to Province over the pre-Gaming Strategy budget.
