September 28, 2007 – Halifax: Complete with Interactive Community Education Displays, a new awareness program and a two-day international conference, the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (NSGC) is launching its sixth annual Responsible Gambling Awareness Week (RGAW). The events, aimed at increasing public awareness of responsible gambling in “The goals of RGAW are to reach as many Nova Scotians as possible and provide them with factual information that will allow them to make informed decisions if they choose to gamble,” says Marie Mullally, President and CEO of NSGC. “This year we are proud to build upon our commitment to keeping Nova Scotians informed by incorporating some new initiatives into the RGAW schedule that reinforce RGAW events are happening across the Province, with a focus on six target communities: · An Interactive Community Education Display that will visit shopping malls in each target community. Visitors to the Display will receive takeaway information and have the opportunity to participate in a responsible gambling quiz that will help increase their knowledge of ways to gamble responsibly if they choose to gamble. · A two-day conference, Nova Scotia's Responsible Gambling Conference, will be held on October 1st and 2nd in · A multi-media awareness program will highlight the importance of gambling responsibly if choosing to gamble. Television and print advertisements will provide real, tangible examples of what responsible gambling behaviour looks like, such as setting time and money limits. · A Player Information Program will include the distribution of responsible gambling information materials to video lottery and ticket lottery retailers in RGAW target communities. These materials will be available for players and will provide responsible gambling examples and information.
· Roundtable discussions will be held with community leaders in three target communities and will be hosted by NSGC’s President and CEO, Marie Mullally. These events will include discussions about the Province’s gaming industry, its current challenges, and a look to the future.
