NSGC Releases 2006-07 Annual Report
July 19, 2007 – Halifax: In its 2006-07 Annual Report released today, Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (NSGC) outlines how the Corporation has delivered business results for Nova Scotia, while carefully and deliberately balancing economic sustainability and social responsibility. A critical part of NSGC’s focus over the last year has been on social responsibility, with the launch of the first Social Responsibility Charter and Action Plan in the Canadian gaming industry, social marketing campaigns and prevention programs for youth. NSGC also focused on giving back to communities with its Charitable Sector Support Program and the launch of the Support 4 Sport Program, a series of themed ticket lottery products that give 100% of profits to amateur sport in
Highlights also include NSGC’s focus on research to foster evidence-based decision-making. The Corporation’s leadership in this area is evident from the release of the findings of a groundbreaking, two-year research project on a Responsible Gaming Device. This research led to NSGC’s announcement that they would be moving forward with the world’s first Informed Player Choice System to give video lottery players real-time information about their play.
The detailed financial statements included in the Annual Report show a $162.3 million Payment to Province in support of government programs and services, down 7% from $174.1 million in the previous year, primarily due to a drop in VLT revenue.
Beyond the revenue gaming provides to government, the industry also accounts for approximately 1,000 direct jobs in
