July 11, 2007 - Halifax: “NSGC’s support for Crosbie has helped save careers, families and lives, which is a tribute to their commitment to the community,” says Perry Boyd, President and Chair of the Society. “The most recent contribution is enabling the Society to take the next step in bringing new and existing programs to even more people. NSGC believed in us from the beginning and we’re proud to have them as a Crosbie Cornerstone Founding Partner.” The Crosbie House Society for drug, alcohol and gambling addiction is regarded as among the most effective treatment facilities in the Province. Although NSGC and the Society have very different mandates, both are concerned with the well-being of Nova Scotians. “As a steward of the Province’s gambling industry, we are focused on creating a healthier future for Nova Scotians. We feel it is our responsibility to support organizations like the Crosbie House Society who are treating people with addictions and in turn, giving back to the community” said Marie Mullally, President and CEO, NSGC. Located in New Minas on a one and a half acre lot, the Society officially reopened in June 2006 as a non-profit organization after being run by the government for 24 years. Since then, more than 100 Nova Scotians have already been treated. There is no question that the first year as a private organization has been busy for Crosbie House Society staff but it has also encouraged them to set new goals for the future. “Success has a short life expectancy without a daily commitment by the people involved,” says Boyd. “The vision is really about continuous improvement, innovation, education and empowerment. We're only at the beginning of what we want to do here.” It’s for this reason that the alignment between NSGC and Crosbie House Society is clear: both are firmly committed to education, awareness and prevention. And because of this, NSGC has committed to being a cornerstone founding partner of the Society. The results are tangible and direct, helping to improve the facility by allowing the Crosbie House Society to add meeting and training spaces and allowing more Nova Scotians to get the help they need. By funding the expansion efforts, NSGC directly helped to increase the number of Nova Scotians who can have access to the information, support and treatment the Society offers. The new space is being used to enhance the Society’s 28-day, 12-step program and offers a place for out-patient services where people can receive assessments, counseling, treatment, rehabilitation and aftercare planning. The Crosbie House Society uses numerous community resources, existing agencies, and self-help organizations to ensure clients receive the most comprehensive treatment possible. Part of the recovery process is a valuable and unique pre- and post-program support network, which is made up of 166 dedicated former Crosbie patients from their 24-year history. But Crosbie House doesn’t stop at treating the person with the addiction; family programs and corporate seminars are offered for those who are dealing with the addiction of a loved one or colleague. It’s all part of helping the whole community. What sets Crosbie House Society apart is their premiere partners, a wealth of addiction treatment experience, an extensive aftercare network and a private professional Board who as Boyd says, defines success, not on awards, notoriety or even by how hard they try, but on the verifiable results delivered. As the Crosbie House Society celebrates its one-year anniversary, the Society is achieving notable milestones. Their statistics definitely prove their success, with client satisfaction sitting at 99%, client recovery for alcohol and drug addictions at 86%, and recovery for those who received treatment for gambling addictions at an impressive 100%. With success like this, it’s clear NSGC’s investment is helping the community, as intended. “This is what being a good corporate citizen is all about. We are so proud to support the good work of the Crosbie House and our community,” said Mullally. For more information on the Crosbie House Society, please visit: www.crosbiehousesociety.com
