NSGC Helps Bingo Charities Help Communities

Friday, December 1, 2006

From local fire halls, to the QEII Foundation, to community associations from across the Province. Over the past three days, more than 180 Nova Scotian charity representatives attended the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation’s (NSGC) Bingo Seminar sessions to learn about new ways to improve their charity bingos.

“Bingo is an important part of Nova Scotia’s social fabric and we want to help foster this important community contributor,” says Marie Mullally, President and CEO of NSGC. “Charities told us they wanted to hear new ideas from both Nova Scotia and beyond to enhance their bingo fundraising efforts – and we listened.”

The Bingo Seminars took place in Sydney, Shelburne and Dartmouth between November 30 and December 2, 2006. Guest speakers from across Canada spoke on topics including “Keys to Marketing Success” and “Responsible Gambling: How to Keep the Game Fun.”

“The goal of the Seminar was to provide relevant and useful information,” says Mullally, “because this all comes back to helping charities help their communities.”

The Bingo Seminar series is part of NSGC’s Charitable Sector Support Program, a commitment to help Nova Scotian communities and the charitable sector. Last year, NSGC and its operators gave almost one million dollars to good causes in our communities. This year with new initiatives like SuperStar Bingo and Support4Sport, NSGC will increase that number even more.
