Monte Carlo Casino Night Breaks Record!

Friday, February 23, 2007

The community of Amherst continues to prove that when it comes to helping charity, they get it. After the cards were played and the chips counted at Saturday night’s “Monte Carlo” Charity Casino Night in Amherst, there was one winner who came out on top – the Cumberland Early Intervention Program (CEIP), a non-profit charity that helps families with children who have developmental challenges. This year’s fundraiser raised over $12,000 – a 50 per cent improvement over last year.

Supported by the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (NSGC) and Casino Nova Scotia (CNS), close to 300 people attended the Las Vegas style Casino Night at the Wandlyn Inn. The casino-style room was buzzing with energy as guests were treated to dinner, live and silent auctions, live band, dancing, and “Monte Carlo” gaming events including black jack and “crown and anchor” wheels. At the end of the evening, participants were able to bid on prizes using half play money and half real money.

“The ‘Monte Carlo’ Casino Night is always a huge success for us. People really enjoy the entertainment and fun, and more importantly, they recognize that their money is going toward a really great cause,” said Patricia Auchnie, Co-Executive Director of CEIP. “We have been hosting the event since 2002 and this year, with the support of NSGC and Casino Nova Scotia, we were able to raise more money than ever before!”

This support is part of NSGC’s Charitable Sector Support Program, a commitment to help Nova Scotian communities and the charitable sector. Last year, NSGC and its operators gave almost one million dollars to good causes in communities across the province. “Giving back to the community is an important part of what we do and we are proud to support the Cumberland Early Intervention Program,” said Marie Mullally, President and CEO of the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation. “This was a great opportunity to use our expertise and infrastructure to help a charity benefit their good cause.”

The “Monte Carlo” fundraiser is a charitable gaming event for adults over 19 years of age and is licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Division.
