The Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (NSGC) is a Crown corporation governed by the provincial Gaming Control Act.
The Nova Scotia government, and ultimately the people of Nova Scotia, are the shareholders and owners of the gaming industry in the Province. The industry is licensed and regulated by the Alcohol and Gaming Division of the Department of Labour and Workforce Development. It is managed by NSGC.
The Corporation's role is to ensure the gaming industry is as socially responsible as possible, while generating reasonable profits. The provincial government makes the big picture, policy decisions about how the industry will be operated in Nova Scotia. NSGC manages and implements those decisions. NSGC also oversees and manages the gaming operators who carry out the day-to-day business of gaming - Casino Nova Scotia (CNS) and Atlantic Lottery Corporation (ALC).
Gaming revenues go directly into the general revenues of the provincial government and help pay for programs and services that benefit all Nova Scotians. In 2008-09, $152.7 million was paid to the Province to help build better roads, schools, hospitals and communities. To put the impact of this money in context, $152.7 million would pay for the construction of 15 elementary schools, the salaries of almost 2,800 registered nurses, the construction of 50.9 kilometres of new twinned-lane highway or the repaving of 509 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia.
Through Casino Nova Scotia, we have Atlantic Canada's premier entertainment destinations, Casino Nova Scotia, Halifax and Casino Nova Scotia, Sydney. These first class facilities offer customers a broad array of gaming opportunities, food and beverage, and exciting shows and entertainment.
Atlantic Lottery, our operator of ticket and video lottery products, provides a mixture of Scratch'n Win, draw games, sports betting products and video lottery to Nova Scotians.
